I recently bought a house:

I'm feeling paralyzed with the design of it.
I moved in on Aug. 1st and have done a few things with the help of some friends. I painted white, but am open to painting or wallpaper, but please see my Pinterest boards for the over all style and feel. I bought some lighting fixtures, bar stools, and sofa already so would like to incorporate those.

I have been cautious moving forward and want the place to look great. I love inspiration that I see on the Instagram of Architecture Digest, Elle Decor, and Amber Lewis, but feel stuck.

I think my style is a mix of modern/contemporary and a little traditional. I want it to feel cozy/connected with nature, clean, and a bit interesting.

The house was built in 2000 and currently feels old and dated to me, but the bones are great so I don't want to do any major renovations. I mainly need furniture, rugs, lighting help, paint and wallpaper. I already have a lot of storage so that is not an issue. I will probably need some window treatments or shades. My timeline is flexible.

Timeline thoughts from client: I’m thinking I’d like to get most if not all of the house done by late 2021 / early 2022 but the Phase I (this project here) I would like to have it implemented by end of Q1 2021 if that's possible.

Feels dated and not my style.
Need furniture, rug, window treatments...
Lighting is an issue - the system is currently broken so need to just fix that.
Need lamps - don't want to re-do all the electrical, but open to fixture etc suggestions.

What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:

I purchased a custom sofa from my designer friend that I would like to incorporate.
I have a coffee table from my previous place (in the pictures), but I don't think I want it in this room. I'm thinking I'll use it in a different room in my house somewhere if it makes sense.
I have a 5 to 6 feet wide TV. Need entertainment until and open to wall mount. May get a different TV eventually.

Family Room Comments.
1. Would you like to see different concepts for the fireplace? Marble? Tile? Polished concrete? Double-sided? Stone with TV casing? ETC?
-- I am open to different concepts for the fireplace. A double sided fireplace might look sleek and cool, but I'm open to any and all suggestions.
In the initial proposals, I would LOVE to see two concepts for the fireplace. One that's easier and cheaper to implement that I can do for Phase I of my home design. And one that may require more renovations that I can do later as my time and budget permits.

2. Do you like the family room layout that the previous designer suggested or do you like the sofa the way you currently have it? Or would you be open to other suggestions?
--- Open to any suggestions. I might like looking at the kitchen the way that sofa is currently, but I'm open to suggestions and would love to hear the reasons behind your layout and flow suggestion. I just don't want the TV above the fireplace.

3. I see your friend picked out a lot of items from 1stdibs.com on Pinterest. Are you interested in seeing a lot of vintage and unique furniture from dealers on there?
--Wouldn't read too much into that. The Pinterest inspiration is just to get a sense of the style and design. It's more about the overall look for me and I didn't even know what 1stdibs was:).

4. Do you think you want any window treatments or shades in the family room?
-- Window treatments I think. I'm open.

5. I painted the room white just to make it comfortable for now, but I'm very open to paint, accents and/or wallpaper.

Get rid of the carpet.

3. Did you want to see concepts for glass + wood or other materials too?
I'm open to ideas, but would want to get a better sense of how much it all would cost so I can decide if I want to do something simpler like staining etc. or more involved.

We're open! He likes things like Universe/Cosmos, star wars, basketball, and soccer.

2. Did you want to keep the bedding?
Maybe new bedding and New rug, but keep the existing bed.

3. Would you like new lighting?
Was thinking about recessed light? sconces?

4. The room is fully painted so would probably like to keep if possible, but open paint or wallpaper (maybe accent) if it makes sense.
5. Are you open to more shelving?
- I'm not crazy about dresser. Not sure if we need more shelving, but I'm open especially if it makes the design better.

Daughter needs a bigger bed. Currently has twin I think that we can put in the guest room.
Her closet is dark. I have also attached my favorite inspiration images from the Pinterest Board here. I really like that light pink room and the details/textures. The Paris theme is cool too.

I may renovate the kitchen in the future for for now just want to furnish it.
Perhaps would like a built in banquette with a breakfast table. I have attached the inspiration for this from my Pinterest board that I like.
Kitchen needs a light fixture. Hoping not to have to re-wire for lighting, but will do if necessary.

Using lighter colors in your medium-sized room will make it feel more airy and bright

For your main color, we chose to use light greige as it offers a fresh, clean, feel to the space while still retaining warmth. Light greige colors are often a favorite for walls because they are light, neutral, and match most color schemes. They are known to make rooms feel more airy and spacious while adding warmth to the walls to keep your space from feeling sterile.

Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
