I need help with a kitchen that is open to a great room and a dining room - and has a post. The entire house is gutted so small additional adjustments can be made (ie enlarge, shrink, add a panty, add a window)

We have not finalized the architectural plans (original and proposed are attached) - but further changes can be made (particularly on how much to open up the wall and if any windows should be added or the existing one closed.

Also included were the original photos of the house.

For design:
We really want black cabinets.

We would prefer to open the kitchen up as much as possible

We like either the big statement hoods or totally streamlined and integrated hoods. If a statement hood is chosen we would prefer it had room to breath maybe with art on either side.

We would like all glass uppers to display my fancy white dishes and the antique jadite dishes.

We cook (and normally together) often so function is important.

We would prefer two normal size sinks (just one bowl) if possible. One for prepping food and one for cleanup. But it is fine if only one makes sense.

We would like to do the gold hardware and faucets

Symmetry is extremely important.

No open shelving (we have 3 dogs and the doors are open a lot) so no dust traps.

We plan to purchase the following appliances - 48” range, 48” fridge with water and ice, a 15” trash compactor, a 24” drawer microwave, a 24” dishwasher (or two). Also - the appliances can be placed anywhere in the room. I actually don’t like where the dishwasher is in the architect’s drawing as it is out in space and will be inconvenient for putting away dishes.

We are open to a warming drawer and changing the fridge to column if we can find a way to get chilled water easily in the kitchen.

We are open to having a bar area in the kitchen (we want this to be the party house).

We own a 36” wine fridge and a 24” kegerator (both can be used elsewhere or incorporated.

What is shown on the plans as the breakfast nook will actually be the formal dining area - and the 6’ door by the dining room will be widened to 8’ wide.

Hopes for the laundry room:

Areas:
- cabinet for dog food
- cabinet for shoes - (i keep all my shoes in a closet in the laundry room now so I don’t track dirt through the house)
- area for dog leashes and harness - either hanging on the wall or in a basket
- small tv by the washer and dryer on the wall for watching tv while folding clothes
- clothes rod for hanging
- dry racks
- keep the sink
- use the gray floor tiles used elsewhere in the house

Cabinet color:
Black, deep teal, minty green like the dishes, any wood, or white

Backsplash: depending on the cabinet color
Deep teal, minty green, marble, or wallpaper

Style: tropical glamour- if that is such a thing

Other considerations:
If there is room for a counter depth fridge we would like to include - if not we will Put it in the garage
If there is room for a dog box or cabinet - we have one dog that was abused that likes to hide - she stays in a powder room in our current house but if there was a little dark space for her in the laundry room that would be great - otherwise I will make a spot for her in my office

For your main color, we chose to use light green because it is soothing to the eye. It reminds us of nature and has a refreshing, stress relieving quality. Green is suitable for any room. In bedrooms it’s relaxing and pleasing, while in dining rooms it promotes overall balance and health. This soothing color encourages relaxation or tranquility, but has enough warmth to encourage comfort and harmony.
