I want this room to feel more masculine/feminine/neutral:
Neutral
What type of sunlight does this room receive?:
Late afternoon light
What do you currently dislike about the room?:
Cabinets, layout, colors, granite. We are considering removing the slider and putting in a window (the view from this point is great) but we can't knock out any of the other walls. I am thinking booth seating once we remove the slider. I cook a lot and I hate that there's no prep space really next to the stove and fridge. My husband would prefer to keep appliances off the counters wherever possible. We probably need a better place for the kettle because the steam makes the cabinets peel. I really like industrial, non-porous surfaces that can be easily cleaned around the kids. I like the look of the ikea high gloss cabinets. No nooks and crannies, etc. it would also be great to have spice rack.
What pieces of existing furniture, lighting, art or accessories do you want to keep in the design?:
The flooring is about to be changed to a dark hardwood and we like our appliances.
Are you open to changing your wall colors?:
Yes
Do you have a preference for either paint or wall covering, or are you open to both?:

Since your room gets plenty of sunlight your color options are quite broad.
For your main color, we chose to use gray because it is neutral and seen as elegant and classy. It compliments many colors such as white, blue, and yellow and works well as part of a color scheme in any room.
Use an eggshell finish paint which has a very light touch of shine (similar texture to an eggshell as implied by its name). This finish is very often used for walls and is more durable and easier to clean than matte finish
Wow! This looks amazing! I love the stainless steel on the island and thanks for the enclosed island option. That really helps. I love the mosaic and the sage/green/grey option too. This looks just fantastic. Thanks again, Aldrin. We love it!
